Earlier, if Chikku is playing with the remote or mobile (or something which cannot be used as his toy), we would hide it under something. And the poor kid, he thought, that particular thing has disappeared, and would cry a little, then start playing with something else. But now my baby is growing up, and I don’t think we can fool him much.
Some days back, while playing with him, I hid his toy under the pillow. For some seconds he looked confused, then he pushed the pillow a little and found his treasure. You should have seen his happy face.
Chikku added one more feather to his “Cap of achievements.” It started like this... He was playing with an empty bottle, and Shibu hid it under the sofa. Chikku could see the bottle, but could not reach it. He knelt down, with his sweet little bottom protruding out, tilted his head and sadly looked at the bottle. Shibu asked him where the bottle is (also gesturing with his hand) in Malayalam, “Chikku bottle evide?”. Chikku would look at him (still confused), then resume his butt protruding position. After a couple of repitations, I think Chikku learnt that he can express his feeling or intentions, with his hands. Not all, but at least one, for now.
From then onwards, if we ask him “evida aa chikku?” which meant ‘where is it Chikku?’, he keeps his right hand in the where position and look at us with a ‘huh... where is it?’ look on his face. He looks so sweet when he does that. It’s a joy to watch him do all this. He may get bored of doing so after sometime though, so we are enjoying it while we can.
