Why do we fall sick..

And its worst if everyone in the family joins in. I take the lead this time, with my sinus acting up and a very painful throat infection as a bonus. After 3-4 days of sedative antibiotics and painkillers I though the worst was over. But it was just round the corner. My baby fell sick.

It started with slight fever, which within a couple of days became a high fever, with diarrhea, cold and cough. For whole 10 days he did not eat anything solid. Just little milk or water. We were really worried and scared for him. We even asked the doc to admit him and give him drips as he was very weak. But the doc was cool about it and kept on say he will fine within a week, and he would start eating then. He weighed 11.6 kgs and was 89 cm tall (actually he should be 12kg, and 84 cm tall), luckily he did not loose much when we took him last time. That was a relief. Did some test, and every thing looked normal, except his Hb count, 10 which actually should be between 13-17 for boys. Have to take him for check up once again today. He is quite Ok now, and is also active and jumping around. Just have to make him eat, and get him back to being a little chubby.

While my baby was sick, his dad decided to join him with his tonsils giving him trouble and being down with fever for a couple of days. Actually when I think of it now, in the past 3-4 weeks, I have taken myself, Jason, hubby and my Mil to the hospital. Phew!! Yes, my Mil too was not well due to cough, and breathing issues.

So in short it was a sick month. So sick that on my birthday (while everyone celebrated Women's day) I cried. Not for turning thirty but for Jason being so sick that be didn't even have the energy to cry. Seeing my baby like that was the worst thing to happen on my birthday. And to top it all we had a prayer meeting consisting of 70-80 families scheduled on the 8th. Since this was planned a month ago we could not cancel it. So amidst all this sickness and problems we had to make preparations for the prayer meeting. The chairs, food and all were ordered in. Had the maid clean up the house and somehow managed to get everything done.

The though which hit me on that night was, being my birthday, I was not happy even for a single minute other than when Jason said "Appy Bood (Happy bday)" and kissed me. I cried that night cos, we made sure everyone had to their stomach full, while I could not make my son eat a single morsel of food...

I know sad-ending post sucks... so here is to lighten up every one's mood.

Presenting My son, according to whom sitting on the floor is so low!!!

So he finds a perfect place to sit, in the dining room cupboard..

On not one but on top of seven chairs.. wow... what a view !!
This pic was taken a day after the prayer meeting. He wants to smile for the camera but does not have the strength to.

The coffee table is the best place to take a nap...isn't it?

On the basket, which acts as the stepping stone to...

The dressing table...Muah!!!!!

p.s: My Mil is gone to kerala so I am all alone with Jason and hubby. Lets see how it turns out. I BTW have post some of Jason's birthday pics here.

Thank you God.

On Saturday evening we had actually planned to go to the park with Jason. But by the time everyone woke up from their afternoon slumber, it was already 5.30pm. After tea, and feeding Jason it was almost 6.30pm. That is when we remembered that there was a prayer meeting at a house near us. This prayer group consists of families from different churches, all staying in our locality. So we get-together for a prayer meeting monthly.

Since the Father who was suppose to give the speech, could not reach on time, one of the members there wanted to share his thoughts with us. He started with a question, 'How many of you like Sundays?' Obviously there was unanimous 'Yes'. 'What if the next day was also Sunday?', Majority of us answered 'Yes'. 'What if Tuesday is also a Sunday?'. Now that will be boring. So cutting out rest of the question-answers, the moral of the story was...

If we are happy always, after some time, we will get bored. So we need to have sad and tough days also, so that we can feel the happiness of the good days. And why do we have sad and tough times? So that we pray to God. Call Him to help us and to guide us.

It does not matter which God, its the trust and confidence we have in Him. I know, whatever I have today is His blessing. My parents, who have always supported me, and have been there for me. My sis, she is a nice girl, even though we still fight a lot. My dearest Hubby, who I don't deserve at all. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life. He is a very good friend, husband and father. In all, he is a lovely person. My darling son, the apple of my eye, the reason to live. Every time, he smiles or laughs or does something funny, I thank God for this wonderful gift. Every time he is sad or crying in pain, I pray for him, for the pain to go away, and so that my baby is happy and smiling again.

From last two days, Jason has a bad cold and is also coughing a lot. He will happily play around when he is awake. But when he goes to sleep, his nose gets all blocked. And since he sucks his fingers while sleeping, the blocked nose wont let him. Poor thing, he woke up every now and then and cried. He was sleepy, coughing and crying, all at the same time. I just cant see him crying like that. I hope he gets well soon...

p.s: BTW, we did make it to the park on Sunday, but by then Jason had already got fever. And the park was dirty and crowded with people. Not just kids, but walkers, joggers, old people, couples canoodling under the bushes, and poor people who did not have any other place to go. Will have to find some other good park to take Jason.

Never Again...

Never again am I going to take Jason to his doc, BY MYSELF. Specially for his vaccination.
Two vaccinations, one of which was supposed to be taken last month were pending. And we got the appointment for 6pm yesterday. At the last vaccination, he pooped on his dad’s lap. Not his fault, the nurse who gave the injection was not doing it properly, so it pained more than it was suppose to. So this time, I packed up his diapers, wipes too, and also two different types of biscuits, and tender coconut water in his sipper for him to drink.

We reached there at around 5.45pm. Our file was ready, and we were supposed to be called in next 10mins for his routine checkup. We were called at 7.15pm. One and half hours after we reached there. And i could say that, during this 90mins, my son was a very obedient and disciplined child, IF

- he had NOT tried to pull the blinking lights of the shoes of this other kid, and in the process
pushed the kid. This was the reason we did not get his shoes with colorful blinking lights on them. Cos we knew he would be busy trying to pull out the lights instead of wearing them.

- he had NOT tried to snatch the rattle from a five month old baby girl. He has the same one at
home, but he wont play with it. He plays with only his cars and blocks to show that he is not a
baby any more. But where was his standards at the hospital?

- he had NOT screamed his lungs out, when he could not pull out the wooden letters spelled
“children’s hospital”, which was pasted at the counter.

- he had NOT screamed AGAIN when I stopped him from opening the dustbin, and examining the contents inside.

- he had NOT wanted to run to door, and try to climb down the stairs, every time I got a seat to
sit. The place was so crowded, there was no place at all. And I was really tired running around
this guy.

- he had NOT screamed (yes AGAIN) when I tried to stop him from stealing the sandals, left by
the patients who were inside the doctor’s room.

-he had NOT wanted to strangulate another kid with his “Muah”. Jason wanted to kiss while that other kid was scared to death.

- he had NOT wanted to get down from my lap, and get hold of the doc’s stethoscope or the pen or go to the weighing machine and operate on it.

-he had NOT, bitten, head butted or pulled the hair of an already irritated and angry Mom,
whenever she stopped him from doing any of the above mischief .

So after coming out of the docs room, we went to the vaccination room. Before the vaccination, I
was suppose to get the medicines from the ground floor. Any one can imagine my state, with a
toddler on my hip, trying to pull out money from my bag, while the prescription and bills come
flying out. I wonder how, and that is when I see a small hand inside my bag. But the major shock was when I was told how much I had to pay for the vaccination, 1500/-. It was more than I
expected.

Anyhow, I was expecting the worse during the injections. The kid who went before Jason, had to be held down by his Dad, Mom, Nurse 1. Since that was not working out, they had to call the
attender too, to hold that kid. I was really scared, as I was alone and even though hubby said he
would try to come to the hospital directly, he could not make it. So when our chance came, I put
Jason down, gave the injection and medicines to Nurse 2. When I bent to pick him, as usual he was near the dustbin.

Anyhow, Nurse1 and myself held Jason down, and Nurse 2 prepared the vaccinations. I prayed, that it did not hurt hum much, and he did not cry. And if he cries, Mamma too cries along with him. I was more worried about the pain, than about how I am going to handle him.

The first injection went unnoticed by Jason. I know!!!! Amazing, he just cringed a little that’s it. No cries. Good!!!The second one was on the other thigh. It must have pained, cos he cried, but very little, no tears.
Good... very Good!!!

My sweetheart... such a brave boy. I bought him a diary milk, but he did not want any. He had not slept the whole afternoon. So on our way back he slept on my shoulder.

At night, as I sat looking at my sleeping son, all I could think of, was how irritated and patient-less I was with him. All he wanted to do was to run around and explore his surrounding.
Obviously I cannot expect him to sit on a chair and read readers-digest or an encyclopedia. He is just a 15 month old baby. If I cannot handle him now, how will I do it later. I should actually
learn from him. He was so brave and a good boy. He did not create any chaos as the other kids. He just wanted to be free.

So next time, I go out with him, I just have to be prepared, organized and be patient.

p.s: I tought of putting up a picture of Jason, but no pics till his hair has grown completely.
Also wanted to say that, we finalized on the house. That is, on the 9th of June, we finshed the registration and all the paper-work. And we are proud owners of a 3-bedroom appartment. Now all we have to do is wait for the family residing there to vacate. Which they will do at the end of July, and after some work which has to be done there, we would be shifting to our new house by Mid-September. Good na :)

Past two weeks...

The past two weeks has been sort-of eventful, in a sad way. Jason was down with loose motions. Don’t know the exact answer to How? And Why? The doc’s says, he has got worms in his stomach. Elders say, it’s a sign that he is going to walk or teeth. What ever the reason, my poor baby has gone down. His face looks so small now.

Past weeks, we were busy with trips to the doctor ( with the next one tomorrow or the day after), trying to feed him something, and trying to stop him from crawling around the house, and stay in bed ( which is highly impossible for him).

The doc asked us to put him on a no-sugar, no-milk, liquid and semi-liquid diet. I didn't have to work hard on that, as Jason would not have anything other the Nusobee Casien ( a milk substitute) and arrowroot biscuits or little rice porridge. Till day before yesterday, he was having only the above minus the porridge. That day he ate little dosa (Indian pan cake). Yesterday he said NO to that. This was the reason for the next visit to the Doc. But Thank God,today he ate something, real food, that too almost four times. I am so happy. Really, I would be in tears when he wound cry of hunger, but did not want to eat anything other than milk (Nusobee Casien). But even then will have to take him for a checkup as soon as possible. And the first thing the Doc says is “Don’t worry, he will be alright”. But when? I am dying to see Jason eat properly at least 2-3 times in a day. I feel so envious of the kids in our building, who dutifully swallow whatever is stuffed in their mouth. I know... BAD ME!!!
